Description of key information

In a chronic study with earthworms adverse effects on reproduction occurred with a test material containing > 25% of CAS 597 -82 -0. No information is available which constituents contribute to these observed adverse effects. In the absence of further data the results were extrapolated to the concentration of CAS 597 -82 -0 as worst case.

Additional information

The toxicity to terrestrial macroorganisms was determined in a study according to OECD guideline No 222 with O,O,O-triphenylphosphorotioate in a lower purity (purity > 25%) and in compliance with GLP criteria.

Two 56-day reproduction tests with Eisenia fetida were performed. In the first reproduction test concentrations of 0, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 mg/kg d.s. (dry soil) were tested. The surviving worms were removed after 28 days of exposure and the produced cocoons were allowed to hatch for a period of 28 days. The following endpoints were recorded:

·Biomass of adult animals: day 0 and 28

·Mortality of adult worms: day 28

·Reproduction: day 56

Under the conditions of the present study, the substance did reduce the reproduction of Eisenia fetida at a nominal concentration of 500 mg/kg d.s. after 56 days of exposure (NOEC).

No information is available which constituents contribute to these observed adverse effects. In the absence of further data the results were extrapolated to the concentration of CAS 597 -82 -0 as worst case:

The 56-day EC10 for reproduction was 181 mg/kg d.s.

The 28-d NOEC for mortality was 500 mg/kg d.s. and for weight reduction was 62.5 mg/kg d.s.

All values refer to 5% organic matter content.

All validity criteria were met.

According to ECHA guidance R.7c the NOEC/ECx is determined by comparing the reproductive output of the worms exposed to the test substance to that of the control, the EC10 for reproduction is determined as key result for the chemical safety assessment.
