Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Principles of method if other than guideline:
In laser diffraction, the particles are dispersed through the laser beam in the air stream. The light is scattered when it meets a particle and the diffraction pattern is measured by a detector. The method relies on the fact that diffraction angle is inversely proportional to particle size. Particle size distribution is calculated by using matrix equations. The method is applicable to crystalline and milled materials.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
Laser scattering/diffraction
Type of particle tested:
primary particle
Type of distribution:
other: laser diffraction
Percentile:
D50
Mean:
>= 0.15 - <= 2.4 mm
Remarks on result:
other: standard deviation not reported
Remarks on result:
other: No data
Conclusions:
Xylitol particle size may range from 0.15 mm (max 7%) to 2.4 mm (0%).
Executive summary:

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol in crystalline form. Xylitol’s particle size can be determined by using laser diffraction. Xylitol particle size may range from 0.15 mm (max 7%) to 2.4 mm (0%).

Additional information

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol in crystalline form. Xylitol particle size may range from 0.15 mm (max 7%) – 2.4 mm (0%) based on a study conducted for the determination of particle size using the laser diffraction method.
