Additional information

The surface tension of aqueous solutions of the test item was determined compliant with GLP according to OECD guideline no. 115 [adopted on 27 July 1995] and EU test method A.5 [Directive 92/69/EEC, Official Journal L 383 A 1992] with the ring method.

Surface tension (at 20°C): 69.5 mN/m at a concentration of 1 g/L.

The result from the key study is corroborated by supporting data:

Published data (Koelzer P and Büchi J, 1971) report 71.22 mN/m for the suface tension of n-butylamine measured as 0.01 M aminhydrochloride in 0.1 N  potassium chloride solution.

Concluding from both, key and supporting study, n-butylamine is not surface active.
