Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In GLP-conform short term respiration test according to OECD guideline 209, no inhibition of respiration of activated sludge was observed up to the highest concentration tested (1000 mg/l). Therefore, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated with Aluminium ammonium bis(sulfate) introduced up to 1000 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The influence of the test item Aluminium ammonium bis(sulphate) on the activated sludge was evaluated by measuring the respiration rate under defined conditions, according to EU Method C.11 and OECD 209 Guidelines. The inhibition of the bacterial respiration activity was in the range of 0 to 3.7% for the test concentrations of 10 to 1000 mg/L. The maximum inhibition was 3.7% at a test concentration of 100 mg/L.

Based on measured inhibition rates, the 3 -hour EC10, EC20 and EC50 could not be quantified because up to the highest nominal test concentration of 1000 mg/L less than 10% inhibition was noted after three hours incubation. A dose response at both test concentrations could not be observed. Nevertheless, the 3 -hour EC10 and EC50 are clearly higher than 1000 mg Aluminium ammonium bis(sulphate)/L under the present test conditions. Even the test was not designed for a NOEC determination, the NOEC of Aluminium ammonium bis(sulphate) may be established above 1000 mg/L.
