Additional information

Skin Irritation:

Diuron was tested for its skin irritation potential according to OECD Guideline 404 (Sharp, 1997). The shaved skin of three male New Zealand rabbits was exposed to unchanged test material (0.5 g) for 4 hours under semi-occlusive conditions. No signs of erythema or oedema were observed at any of the time points in any of the rabbits. Diuron was therefore considered as not irritating to rabbit skin.

Eye Irritation:

Diuron was examined for its eye irritation potential in a study performed according to OECD Guideline 405 (Sharp, 1997). 0.1g undiluted test substance was instilled to the right eye of 3 rabbits (New Zealand White). The substance did not cause any effects with regards to corneal opacity or iris lesions. Only very slight conjunctival redness and oedema were observed but these effects were fully reversible within 72 hours.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on irritation is conclusive but not sufficient for classification according to directives DSD (67/548/EEC) or CLP (1272/2008/EC).
