Description of key information

In a study according to OECD 201 effects on the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus after 72 h were investigated. The EC50-values for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 h were 33.9 (31.9 - 36.8) and 16.8 (14.2 - 20.4) mg/L, respectively. The NOEC-values for inhibition of specific growth rate and inhibition of yield after 72 h were 10.0 and 3.20 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
33.9 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
10 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of the submission substance to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined in a study according to OECD 201 under GLP conditions (RL 1). The study was conducted under static conditions and test concentrations were verified analytically. All effect values are given based on nominal concentrations.

Similar results were obtained in studies reported in the EU Risk Assessment Report on the submission substance:

Static toxicity test with Scenedesmus pannonicus: EC50 (96h, growth rate) 12 mg/L;

Selenastrum capricornutum: EC50 (72h, biomass) 21.1 mg/L; NOEC (72h, biomass) 7.5 mg/L;
