Description of key information

According to structural properties, hydrolysis is not expected. Moreover, the substance is readily biodegradable.

According to Kollig et al. (1993), Boethling & Mackay (2000) and Harris (1990), the substance is generally resistant to hydrolysis because it does not contain any labile functional groups. According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VIII, Section, Column 2, the study on hydrolysis as a function of pH does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. Diethylamine (CAS 109-89-7) was found to be readily biodegradable in a modified MITI test according to OECD 301C (68-70% degradation (O2 consumption), NITE, 1988, see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1). The result was supported in a ready biodegradability test according to 79/831/EEC, Annex V, part C, comparable to OECD 301F (BASF AG, report no.: 01.89/0742, see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1), where diethylamine was also found to be readily biodegradable, but failed the 10-d window (see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1). Therefore, no study on hydrolysis is performed.
