Description of key information

The densities of the butenes category members were reported to range from 0.588 to 0.616 g/cm3. This range was derived from the members of the butenes category: but-1-ene (CAS 106-98-9), 2-butene (CAS 107-01-7) and 2-methylpropene (CAS 115-11-7).

The data reported are derived from the members of the butenes category and were obtained from the CRC Handbook (Lide 2008). This handbook is peer-reviewed and is considered reliable and suitable for use as a key study for this endpoint. The density of the butenes category therefore ranges from 0.588 to 0.616 g/cm3. The data are supported by results from the Merck Handbook (O’Neil 2006), which is a peer reviewed handbook with results of 0.6255 at -6.47°C for but-1-ene and 0.5942 at 20°C for 2-methylpropene.

The density of 2-methylpropene is 0.59 g/cm3 (Lide 2008). The density of 2-butene ranges from 0.599 to 0.616 g/cm³ (Lide 2008). The density of but-1-ene is 0.588 g/cm3 (Lide 2008). The mean of the density values for the butenes is 0.598 g/cm3and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.
