Description of key information

Tert-butyl cumyl peroxide does not fulfil the PBT or vPvB criteria as the log Kow value of the substance has been determined to be 4.4 (OECD 123). This value is below the screening criterion of 4.5 and thus it can be concluded that the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation. As mentioned in the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.11 on PBT/vPvB assessment (Version 3.0, June 2017, Figures R.11-1 and R.11-2), the PBT/vPvB assessment stops when the substance does not fulfil the PBT and vPvB criteria. In addition, the PEC/PNEC ratios for the aquatic and sediment compartments obtained in the exposure assessment of the substance are below 1. Therefore, the conduct of simulation tests according to OECD 308 and 309 can be waived in accordance with column 2 of Annex IX chapter 9.2 of Regulation EC 1907/2006. Moreover, the soil simulation testing is waiving because direct and indirect exposure of soil is unlikely, as explained in the section “Terrestrial compartment”.
