Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
3 376 mg/L

Additional information

As key study concerning acute toxicity to microorganisms a test performed by BASF (1989) according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412 part 27 was identified, using Pseudomonas putida as test organism. In the static test an EC10 of 3376 mg/L after 30 minutes of exposure was estimated. This result is supported by the results of a test similar to OECD guideline 209 using industrial activated sludge as inoculum (BASF 1979). After 30 minutes an EC20 >1995 mg/L was estimated.
