Description of key information

A test according to OECD 201 was conducted using Chlorhexidine digluconate as test substance. As Chlorhexidine base is the active component, the results can be converted to equivalents of CHD-Base.
For algal toxicity EC50 values of 0.021 mg CHD-Base/L and 0.046 mg CHD-Base/L were found for biomass production and growth rate, respectively. The EC10 for growth rate was determined to be 0.017 mg CHD-Base/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.046 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.017 mg/L
