Additional information

oral:

An acute oral toxicity study similar to OECD 401 with acceptable restrictions mostly due to reduced reporting in times before GLP was performed. Groups of 5 rats per sex and dose were administered with 3160, 2150, 1470, 1000 mg/kg of the test substance. The acute oral LD50 for male and female rats is ca. 1700 mg/kg after oral application (BASF 1979).

inhalation:

Five rats per sex and dose were exposed to 0.1, 0.24 and 0.45 mg/L (vapor; analytical conc.) for 1h in an OECD 403 guideline study. Irregular and accelerated respiration as well as eyelid closure, restlessness followed by apathy and abdominal position was observed. Necropsy of the animals that died showed general congestion (all animals) and intensified hyperemia of the lungs.

No macroscopic pathologic findings were noted in the animals killed at the end of the study. Combined LC50 value is about 0.24 mg/L/1h (BASF 1994)

Comparable results (LC50 0.1 mg/L/4h) were achieved in an non GLP study (BASF 1979).

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the results the substance is classified as very toxic by inhalation cat 1 (H302) and harmful after swallowing cat 4 (H330) according of regulations 1272/2008/EC.
