Description of key information

The following study was submitted as the key study for the data requirement toxicity to microorganisms:
Clarke N (2010) ASSESSMENT OF THE INHIBITORY EFFECT ON THE RESPIRATION OF ACTIVATED SEWAGE SLUDGE. Testing Laboratory: Harlan Laboratories Limited, Shardlow Business Park, Shardlow, Derbyshire, DE72 2GD, UK. Owner company: Organo Tin REACH Consortium, c/o ReachCentrum, Avenue E. Van Nieuwenhuyse 6, B-1160, Brussels, BELGIUM. Report No.: 3109/0032. Report date: 2010-07-13.
The study was performed in compliance with GLP and in line with the OECD guideline 209. The study was therefore assigned a reliability score of 1.
The effect of the test item on the respiration of activated sewage sludge micro-organisms gave a 3-Hour EC50 of greater than 1000 mg/l.
The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 3 hours exposure was 16.3 mg/l. (OECD 209)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
16.3 mg/L

Additional information

A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to the key study, Clarke N (2010). The study was conducted in accordance with a recognised guideline (OECD 209) and GLP and was therefore considered of high reliability and adequate to fulfil the data requirement. A 3-Hour EC50 of greater than 1000 mg/l was recorded. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 3 hours exposure was 16.3 mg/l. (OECD 209)
