Appearance/physical state/colour

The appearance was reported as an extremely pale yellow, slightly viscous liquid.

Melting point/freezing point

The melting point was < 50 °C.

Boiling point

No boiling point was observed, decomposition occurred at > 230 °C.

Density

The relative density of di-n-butyltin-bis(methylmaleinate) was 1.38 at 20 ± 0.5 °C

Vapour pressure

The vapour pressure of the test item was determined to be 0.50 Pa at 25°C. A slight, but gradual drop in vapour pressure was then observed on repeated temperature cycling of the test item over the range 25 to 35°C, with individual values in the range 0.37 to 0.26 Pa for thirteen runs. Such vapour pressure characteristics are indicative of the gradual reduction of the more volatile fraction of the test item, likely to exist as impurities. To provide representative data for risk assessment on accidental release of the test item, the initial, highest value obtained was taken as the definitive result.
