First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Give oxygen if necessary and remove patient to hospital.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Flood with gently running water for at least fifteen minutes
and seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with large quanities of water and seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: If confined to the mouth give large quantities of water as
mouthwash. If swallowed drink water and seek medical
attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry chemical, foam, water or CO2

Product arising from burning: Oxides of nitrogen and carbon, hydrogen bromide and water.
Actual testing shows that the compound is thermally stable
for 24 hours at 75 °C and burns reluctantly.

Product determined by test: Y

Protective equipment: Fire-fighters should wear self-contained breathing
apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear skin and respiratory protection (refer to section
2.3.1).

Use a suitable industrial vacuum cleaner for cleaning
purposes.

Remove all source of heat, flame or sparks. Ventilate area
and minimise dust.

Sweep into clean liners and place in an appropriately
labelled drum. Flood the area to waste with water.

Waterproof footware and gloves are recommended.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance can cause skin irritation. Exposure to the
skin should be minimized by handling the substance in a
hood, by the use of local exhaustion systems or by using
specialized filling/emptying/dosaging systems designed to
minimize dust generation:

Jackets, trousers, rubber gloves, dust mask and safety
goggles should be worn when handling this material.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place in closed fibre board or
polyethylene drums. The fibre board drums are double-lined
with polyethylene bags.

Store remote from source of heat, flame or sparks at ambient
temperatures.

Keep containers tightly closed and protect them from damage
caused by incorrect handling and storage.

Ensure that the containers are not externally contaminated
with the substance.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None known. The likelihood of a dust explosion is considered
to be minimal, as the compound is slightly hygroscopic and
does not tend to form dust.

Chemical reaction with water: No hazardous reaction; water soluble

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: There is no possibility of the recovery/recyling of the used
substance.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralisation is not possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: None

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is the preferred method of disposal

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: None

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: None

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The notified substance is a chemical intermediate in the
manufacture of an animal health drug and is not intended for
public use.
