Additional information

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:

The LC50 value of the test substance on Leuciscus idus was determined to be greater than 460 mg/L and lower than 1000 mg/L in a guideline study according to DIN 38 412 (BASF AG 10F1001/885092, 1988). The LC0 was determined to be 460 mg/L. Therefore, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.

The EC0 value of the test substance in Daphnia magna was determined to be 125 mg/L in a guideline study according to EU method C2. The EC50 value was found to be about 190 mg/L (BASF AG, 1/1597/2/88-1597/88, 1988). Based on these data, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

The acute toxicity of the test substance on Desmodesmus subspicatus was measured in a guideline study according to DIN 38 412/9. The EC10 value on the growth rate of the organisms was determined to be about 271.7 mg/L and the EC50 value was found to be ca. 549.3 mg/L (BASF AG 02/90/179, 1990). Therefore, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.

The EC10 value of the test item on activated sludge was determined to be about 785 mg/L in a guideline study according to DIN 38412, part 8 (BASF AG 911597/88/w, 1989). Therefore, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
