Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data on the toxicity of stearoyl chloride is available. However, since the test substance rapidly hydrolyses in water invertebrates are mainly exposed to the hydrolysis product, stearic acid.

No reliable data are available on stearic acid.

There is one study available with sodium oleate (CAS 143 -19 -1) as test substance, which can be used for a read-across approach. The 24 -h EC50 was determined to be 4.2 mg/L (Huber, 1991, in HERA, 2003).

The hydrolysis product hydrochloric acid (HCl) was tested in a semi-static acute toxicity test according to OECD 202 with Daphnia magna. The 48-h EC50 was 0.492 mg/L (acid equivalent to pH 5.3; OECD 2002).
