Additional information

Discard alcohol is a mixture of components: a mixture of C8-13 branched hydrocarbons, C9-13 branched primary alcohols and C10-12 cyclic ethers. All components are multi-isomeric. The composition is variable. All structures are branched and multi-isomeric. For the purposes of read across, an equivalent alcohol will be used, as will data from a commercial substance (Vammar D10, CAS RN 98072-31-2) that contains similar aliphatic ethers to Discard alcohol.

Data is available for short-term toxicity to fish, and short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates to meet REACH requirements.

The acute toxicity of Alcohols, C9-11-iso, C10-rich, as measured by mortality to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was evaluated in freshwater. Based on the nominal loading of the test substance in water, the 96 -hr LL50 value was 3.0 mg/l.

The Vammar D10 rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) LL50 value was greater than 100 mg/L.

The acute toxicity of Alcohols, C9 -11 -iso, C10 -rich, as measured by immobility to the water flea (Daphnia magna) was evaluated in freshwater. The 48-h EL50 for Daphnia magna was 6.2 mg/l, based on nominal loading of the test substance in water.

The 21 -d Daphnia magna NOELR (reproduction) was >9.7 mg Vammar D10/L.
