Description of key information

A marine algal toxicity test with skeletonema costatum exposed to COASOL and conducted under GLPs and following ISO Guideline No. 10253 resulted in a 72-hour growth rate EL50 and NOELR of 7.9 and 0.32 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for marine water algae:
7.9 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water algae:
0.32 mg/L

Additional information

One marine algal study was available for COASOL and considered reliable for assessment of this endpoint. The study was conducted with Skeletonema costatum and found to be of good quality and assigned a Klimisch score of one. Due to the low water solubility of the test substance, algae were exposed to the water-ammodated fraction resulting from solutions prepared at a nominal loading rates of 0.1, 0.32, 1, 3.2, and 10 mg/L. The study was conducted for 72-hours, following ISO Guideline NO. 10253 and under GLPs. The study concluded the 96-hour LL50 value was >1.6 mg/L and considered the key parameter for this endpoint. The study concluded that the 72-hour growth rate EL50 and NOELR was 7.9 and 0.32 mg/L, respectively and considered the key parameters for this endpoint.
