- the lack of toxic effects shown in the available acute aquatic toxicity tests with HfO2: no observed effects in any of the tests for acute toxicity to algae, aquatic invertebrate and fish.
- the extremely low water solubility of HfO2 <5 µg/L
- and its affinity to form complexes with organic matter (Kd values are reported for Hf metal, with a range of 1500 – 8500 L/kg; that show a strong affinity of the metal for particulate matter)

These two last points make HfO2 not bioavailable to aquatic organisms ; it is not relevant to conduct a bioconcentration test.
