Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Skin

The potential of (S)-1-Phenylpropylamine (CAS 3789-59-1) to cause acute dermal irritation or corrosion was assessed in vivo in rabbits. The test substances caused full thickness necroses within an exposure time of 3 min. [Calvert Preclinical Services, 2001]

Eye

A study was performed to assess the ocular irritancy potential of (S)-1-Phenylpropylamine (CAS 3789-59-1) in the rabbit following application onto the cornea of the enucleated eye. The rabbit enucleated eye test is used, as a first stage in the assessment of ocular irritancy potential. Based on the evaluation criteria defined for this test, the test substance was considered to have the potential to cause ocular irritancy in vivo. [Calvert Preclinical Services, 2000]

Respiratory system

Currently, there is no information available.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: highly corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin

Based on the results of the in vivo experiments, the test substance needs to be labelled as “highly corrosive to the skin” (Cat. 1A), according to the criteria defined by the EU and the GHS system.

Eye

Based on the results of the results of the eye irritation test in vitro and in view of the results of the skin irritation test, the test substance is also considered as corrosive to the eye and therefore needs to be classified and labelled according to EU and GHS criteria.

Respiratory system

No data available. The substance is corrosive.
