Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2013
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Study generated according to valid and internationally accepted standard testing guidelines.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
plate method
Surface tension:
>= 32.96 - <= 36.81 mN/m
Temp.:
19.8 °C
Conc.:
7.4 mg/L

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item was determined as 33.32 ± 0.62 mN/m at 19.8 °C. One measurement series was performed for verification (after 56 minutes). No significant changes and thus no significant dependence on time were observed.

As all measured values were lower than 60 mN/m L, the substance was classified as surface active.

The surface tension of the negative control lay within the accepted range.

The concentration was determined with 7.40 mg test item/L (based on analysis of dissolved organic carbon in the test solution).

Conclusions:
The result of the test is considered valid and the test item is classified as surface active in a concentration of 7.40 mg/L
Executive summary:

The surface tension has been determined according to guideline EC method A.5,OECD 115.

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item was determined as 33.32 ± 0.62 mN/m at 19.8 °C.

The result of the test is considered valid and the test item is classified as surface active in a concentration of 7.40 mg/L

Description of key information

The surface tension of the phosphorous acid, triC12-C14 alkyl esters was investigated in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with EC A.5 method and OECD Guideline No. 115, using Plate method.

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item was determined as 33.32 ± 0.62 mN/m at 19.8 °C.

We assume that the test item is classified as surface active in a concentration of 7.40 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
33.32
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
7.4

Additional information

The surface tension of the phosphorous acid, triC12-C14 alkylesters was investigated in one GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with standard methods, without deviations. The study is considered as reliable (Klimisch 1) and is selected as a key study for the endpoint.
