Short-Term Toxicity to Aquatic Invertebrates

A 24 hour Daphnia toxicity study was performed according to the OECD 201 Guideline (April, 1984). The study was conducted as part of a validation process for a number of materials. Therefore, only the test conditions of the studies and the results are presented. The 24 hour EC50value for thioanisole exposed to Daphnia magna was calculated to be 3.0 mg/L with 95% confidence limits of 2.2 to 4.0 mg/L.

Toxicity to Aquatic Algae and Cyanobacteria

The toxicity of Thioanisole to Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined in a 72 hour algal growth inhibition study conducted in accordance with OECD 201.

The EC50 for growth rate reduction (ERC50: 0-72h) was 1.3 mg/L with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 0.44 to 4.0 mg/L.

The EC50 for yield inhibition (EYC50: 0-72h) was 0.80 mg/L with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 0.43 to 1.5 mg/L.

The NOEC for both growth rate reduction and yield inhibition was 0.43 mg/L.
