Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Several studies are available in order to determine the toxicity of the stilbene fluorescent whitening agents category to microorganisms. All of those studies demonstrate that the substances belonging to the category do not inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge in concentrations lower or equal than 100 mg/L. Reading across, it is assumed that the substance CAS 371756 -75 -1

does not inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge in concentrations lower or equal than 100 mg/L.

CAS 16090-02-1

The IC50 of the chosen key study was found to be greater than 100 mg/L (CIBA - GEIGY 1991).

CAS 27344-06-5

The EC50 value of a guideline study according to OECD 209 was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L. Therefore the substance is considered not to inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge.

CAS 16470-24-9:

The EC50 value of the test substance on activated sludge according to OECD 209 was found to be greater than 100 mg/L (CIBA-GEIGY 1991).
