Reference
Name:
2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol does not meet the P and v P criteri as

An OECD TG 301 study indicates <10% biodegradation, and this is normally sufficient to decide that the substance meets the P criteria and possibly the vP criteria.

The biodegradation of OECD 302B test on the test item indicates a biodegradation at 25%. These two results confirm that the test item does not meet the P nor  vP criteria.

The2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol does not meet the B and VB criteria

he log Kow of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol is -0.6 (HPLC method).

The value is very low (and below the threshold of 4.5) and no bioaccumulation potential of the test item is expected.

The2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol does meet the T criteria

There is no evidence to have a NOEC < 0.01 mg/L for long term toxicity tests (worst case for algae NOEC (growth rate) = 92 mg/L).

The substance does not meet T criteria for environmental compartment.

The substance is  classified as toxic for reproduction (category 2) according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008.

The 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol does meet the T criteria and the PBT criteria

The 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol does not fulfill the PBT criteria
