Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The organic component of the product is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since the acetic acid - boron trifluoride complex rapidly decomposes in water, the biodegradability of the decomposition products acetic acid and boron trifluoride dihydrate is examined. The biodegradability of acetic acid was tested following the OECD test guideline 301 C. After the 2 weeks test period, 100 % of the test substance was biodegraded (JETOC, 1993). Acetic acid is therefore considered readily biodegradable. Boron trifluoride dihydrate is inorganic and is therefore not subject to biodegradation.
