A NOEC of 0.0048 mg/L was obtained in a 21-day chronic (reproductive) study in Daphnia magna.

Additional information

Exposure of Daphnia magna to the test material resulted in no significant mortalities at all the test concentrations employed. The 14- and 21-Day EC50 (immobilization) values, based on time-weighted mean measured test concentrations for parental daphnids (P1) were estimated to be > 0.016 mg/L. The 21-Day EC50 (reproduction) based on time-weighted mean measured test concentrations was greater than 0.016 mg/L. The LOEC and the NOEC values, based on time-weighted mean measured test concentrations, were 0.016 and 0.0048 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC value was based on a significant reduction in number of young per adult at the highest test concentration attained. In an addendum study (see Section 4.8 of this IUCLID file), a slow-stir method of test article dissolution was employed without the use of an auxiliary solvent, as had been used in the original 21 -day Daphnia magna reproduction test. Under these conditions, the maximum attainable concentration of EHMC in the medium was 0.00182 mg/l. It was therefore considered that the results from the highest test concentration from the Daphnia magna reproduction test were invalid. The test article was judged to have no significant effects on Daphnia magna when tested up to the true limit of solubility. Therefore, the 14- and 21 -day EC50 values for immobilization and reproduction were both greater than 0.0048 mg/l. The "No Observed Effect Concentration" is also 0.0048 mg/l.
