Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

NTA acid is readily biodegradable. In a CO2 evolution test according to OECD 301B the biodegradation of NTA acid was investigated [BASF SE, 2009]. After 14 days 89 % degradation was determined. Further tests with NTA acid [Strotmann et al., 1995] and with the analog salt Na3NTA [BASF AG, 1983], confirms this result. Biodegradation in the marine environment seems to be slow. In a DOC-removal test with marine bacteria according to ISO 16221 < 10% degradation observed after 59 days [BASF SE, 2010].
