The substance was not readily biodegradable in the available valid study in accordance with EU Method C.4-E. A significant fraction of 48% of the substance was degraded at the end of the 28-day study period (clear indication that extensive primary biodegradation occurred) and biodegradation was still ongoing.

Biodegradation was also being predicted with the BIOWIN estimation tools in accordance with ECHA guidance R.7b. Following the criteria given in the guidance, menthyl acetate should be considered as inherently biodegradable in the environment. Consequently, the substance is not persistent in the environment.
