Description of key information
The effective concentration (EC50) of sodium 2-(2-dodecyloxyethoxy) ethyl sulphate in a aquatic green algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) in a 72 hr study on the basis of growth effect was estimated to be 115.072 mg/L.Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that sodium 2-(2-dodecyloxyethoxy) ethyl sulphate does not exhibit toxicity to algae.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for freshwater algae:
- 115.072 mg/L
Additional information
Based on the various studies available with Klimish rating 2 for the target substance CAS NO 3088-31-1 and read across substances and based on the category approach of organic functional group along with similar mechanistic approach and having structural similarities defined by QSAR toolbox. The results is summarized as follows

By applying weight of evidence approach to the studies summarized in the above table it can be observed that EC50 value is expected to be in range of100 to1550 mg/l in 6 hrs to 72 hrs study. Thus considering CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it is concluded that Sodium 2-(2-dodecyloxyethoxy) ethyl sulphate does not exhibit toxicity to green algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata, Laminaria hyperborea and Seleriastrum Capricornutum.)
