Main Study

The requirements for repeatability of the DIN 51794 standard are stated as follows: Three lowest values of the main study have to lie within a range of 10 K (if auto-ignition temperature is below 300 °C) respectively 20 K (if auto-ignition temperature is above 300 °C).

The following lowest values were recorded:

The lowest value of the auto-ignition temperature is 162 °C. This value was determined using 20 drops test item. The test item showed auto-ignition after 264 seconds.

The auto-ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature is stated as 160 °C.

Validity

In the DIN 51794, the following limits are applied to the range of lowest values which may be used for evaluation:

Acceptable ranges

Auto ignition temp.

Range

< 300 °C

difference between three values of the main study max. 10 K

> 300 °C

difference between three values of the main study max. 20 K

The three lowest values of the main study lay within a range of 10 K (as required for auto-ignition temperatures below 300 °C). The largest difference between measured ignition temperatures was 10 K.

Conclusions:
The auto-ignition temperature of Aldehyde M was determined to be 160 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
Executive summary:

A study was to determine the auto-ignition temperature of Aldehyde M according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.15 and DIN 51794 Three independent determinations were conducted. The auto-ignition temperature was determined to be 162 °C as lowest value of three determinations. According to the criteria as laid down in DIN 51794 the auto-ignition temperature is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature is stated as 160 °C. The three lowest values of the main study lay within a range of 10 K. No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome. Thus, the validation criteria were fulfilled.
