Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

2-Tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol is a member of the Guerbet Alcohols, which comprises a range of branched long chain alcohols C12-32. It is also structurally related to the substances of the OECD SIDS Long Chain Alcohols (LCA) categories, comprising a range of straight and branched long chain alcohols C6-22. As defined in the ‘Read Across Justification Document’ section 13, data provided for these categories is representative of 2-tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol and suitable for assessment purposes.

According to data from structural analogues of 2 -tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol, the target substance is unlikely to produce toxicity in freshwater aquatic organisms on all three trophic levels (fish, invertebrates and algae) in acute toxicity studies up to the limit of the water solubility. In addition, due to low water solubility and ready biodegradation, it is not technically feasible to conduct long-term aquatic toxicity studies on 2-tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol. Since 2 -tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol does not cause acute toxicity and it is not possible to conduct chronic studies due to low solubility and rapid biodegradation, the LCA does not pose an aquatic hazard and it is not possible to derive NOEC or PNEC values needed for quantitative risk assessment. However, it is possible to qualitatively conclude that, based on low solubility and available acute effects test data, 2-tetradecyloctadecan-1-ol does not pose a risk to the freshwater aquatic compartment.
