Description of key information

skin: 1-Aminotetralin showed a corrosive potential in the EpiDerm corrosivity test (OECD 431).
eye: Testing is not required because 1-Aminotetralin is classified as being corrosive to the skin.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Additional information

skin corrosion

Considering the cutaneous reactions as well as the average score for irritation, 1-hour exposure of 1-Aminotetralin induced irritation of the skin but no corrosive effects under the test conditions. Taking into account these findings together with the results of the EpiDermTM Skin Corrosivity Test however, it was concluded, that 1-Aminotetralin has a corrosive potential under the test conditions. The results do not indicate a severely corrosive potential of the test substance. [BASF, 2006]

eye irritation

According to REACH, Annex VII, No. 8.2 column 2 testing is not required because 1-Aminotetralin is classified as being corrosive to the skin.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data the test item is subject to C&L:

according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC: corrosive cat. 1C, H314 and

according to Directive 67/548/EEC: corrosive: R34
