- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:

- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- non flammable
- Remarks:
- Migrated information
- Conclusions:
- Based on the observed results, it was concluded that AHTN should not be considered as flammable and no further testing is therefore required.
- Executive summary:
A preliminary screening test in accordance with the EU test methods has been performed. An AHTN strip was exposed to a flame of a Bunsen burner that was placed at the open end of the strip until the substance ignited. The flame extinguished immediately after removing the burner. No combustion propagation or any smouldering was observed. The result of the test is that AHTN is not flammable.
Referenceopen allclose all
It proved difficult to ignite the test item. Only at a very high temperature, the substance could be ignited, but the flame extinguished immediately after removing the burner. No combustion propagation or any smouldering was observed. Melting of AHTN interfered, but the force of the flame at the open end of the strip kept most of the substance inside. It was the melt that ignited during the test.
Description of key information
Based on the flash point and structure considerations and practical experiences, it is concluded that the test substance is non-flammable, non-pyrophoric, and it does not emit flammable gases when in contact with water.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The flash point of the test item is >100°C, which is above the upper limit of 60°C set in the classification and labelling criteria of the CLP regulation. Further, the test item does not contain any chemical group that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air, damp air or water at room temperature (circa 20°C). Furthermore, no metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present. Based on structural considerations (absence of structural alerts), it can be concluded that the test substance is incapable of developing a dangerous amount of (flammable) gas in contact with air, damp air or water.
Classification of the test item as flammable solid, pyrophoric solid, and for emitting flammable gases in contact with water is not warranted in accordance with EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
