To assess the long-term toxicity of the registered substance, METHYL CIS-3-OXO-2-PENTYL-1-CYCLOPENTANE ACETATE, to aquatic invertebrates, one valid study is available.

This study (Madsen and Bussard, 2000), assessed as a key study, was performed on a read-across substance, METHYL 3-OXO-2-PENTYL-1-CYCLOPENTANE ACETATE (quality High Trans isomer), according to OECD Guideline 211 (1998) including a GLP statement. This read-across substance is a mixture of two diastereomers, approximately 10% cis- and 90% trans-diastereomers of which the cis-diastereomer corresponds to the registered substance. Daphnia magna were exposed to aqueous solutions of the test substance at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 0.13, 0.25, 0.50, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0 and 16 mg test substance/L during a complete life cycle exposure (21 days) under static renewal test conditions. Any mortality and/or sublethal effects were daily recorded. The Time Weighted Mean (TWM) measured concentrations of the test substance for both new and old solutions were 0.10, 0.21, 0.42, 0.83, 1.82, 3.74, 7.81 and 16.04 mg/L, corresponding to 74 to 101% of the targeted nominal concentrations. Based on the results of this study, the EC10 values (superior statistical tool than NOEC) for all chronic toxicity endpoints were above 1.0 mg/L based on TWM measured concentrations. For reproduction endpoint, which is the most sensitive endpoint, the EC10 value was 1.86 mg/L.

This supporting substance is considered adequate for read-across purposes based on similar physico-chemical properties and similar ready biodegradability potential between the registered substance and the analogue material used.
