RESULTS

- Safety pre-test 1: When heated on a magnesia groove over a Bunsen burner, the test substance fizzled with white smoke, melted to a yellow-brown liquid and burned with a yellow flame. When the test item was beaten with a hammer on the anvil, the test substance was compacted, no reaction was observed.

- Safety pre-test 2: The outside gold seal was grey-black discoloured and slightly bulged after reaching a temperature of 520 °C. After cooling, weight was recorded as 621.42 mg. When the crucible was opened, the test substance was charred, the gold seal was grey-black discoloured and

deformed.

- After calibration with indium and zinc the measurement of indium yielded the values shown in Figure 1 and Table 3.3-a (attached). The measurement of indium after calibration met the validity criteria.

- The DSC curve for the test item is shown in Figure 2 (attached).

- The DSC values for the test item are shown in Table 3.4-a (attached).

- Mass of the test item: 1.04 mg

- Mass of crucible before measurement: 616.86 mg,

- Mass of crucible after measurement: 616.13 mg.

- Observations: After the test the crucible was visually unchanged, the crucible was opened and the gold seal and the test item were discoloured black/grey.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
During the DSC run an exothermal event caused by decomposition was observed at the temperature of 164.50 °C (onset) and this was integrated to derive the related energy (in J/g). The related energy of the observed exothermal event was 597.41 J/g.
Executive summary:

Thermal stability of the test item was investigated by conducting a DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) screening test from 0 °C to 520 °C.

During the DSC run an exothermal event caused by decomposition was observed at the temperature of 164.50 °C (onset) and this was integrated to derive the related energy (in J/g). The related energy of the observed exothermal event was 597.41 J/g.
