Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. Purity is specified. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO No., other: ISO 3679-1983
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO No., other: ASTM D-3278-96
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
equilibrium method closed cup
Flash point:
150 °C
Atm. press.:
98 kPa
Remarks on result:
other: +/-2°C
Flash point:
151 °C
Atm. press.:
101.325 kPa
Remarks on result:
other: corrected flash point

Preliminary determination: 151°C

Determination 1 (fresh sample): 150°C

Determination 2 (fresh sample): 150°C

Atmospheric pressure = 98.0 kPa

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The study is not suitable for classification purpose, as the flash point is not relevant for solids.
However, it confirms that the substance does not evolve flammable vapours upon heating.
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance was determined under GLP according to ISO 3679 (listed in EU A9 guideline), closed cup method. Two main runs were performed, and the result was corrected to normal atmP.

Normal FP = 151°C

Determination 2 (fresh sample): 149°C

Atmospheric pressure = 97.1 kPa

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance ST 16 C12 was determined under GLP according to ISO 3679 (listed in EU A9 guideline), closed cup method. Two main runs were performed, and the result was corrected to normal atmP.

Normal FP = 150°C

Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 2 of REACh Annex XI, flash point measurement does not apply to solids.
As presented under IU Section 4.2, melting is above the highest threshold value of 60°C, for classification according to CLP criteria, for both quality grades.
Please refer to flammability (flammable solids) under 4.13.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information

Description of key information

CLP criteria do not apply (solid).

The substance is NOT classified as flammable liquid according to UN GHS criteria.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
150 °C

Additional information

Flash point is not relevant for classification purpose according to CLP criteria, as the substance is still solid at 60°C (highest classification threshold for flammable liquids).

However, the endpoint is relevant for classification purpose according to GHS criteria (additional hazard category not implemented in CLP), as the substance turns liquid below 93°C.

Two fully reliable experimental studies, conducted according to a recognized ISO/EC method, are available for two different purities. Consistent results (150 and 151°C under normal Patm) were obtained.
