Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19th – 22nd March 2013
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The data contained in this report has been generated in a laboratory holding a current statement of GLP Compliance, issued by the UK GLP Monitoring Authority, MHRA, but not as part of a formal GLP study.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: Determination of Solubility in various solvents SOP067.00 Issue 8 Issued November 2011, Expires November 2013
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Procedure for Determination of Octanol Solubility
Approximately 2.0g 10467869 was accurately weighed, in duplicate, into 125mL conical flasks and 20mL
n-Octanol added. A magnetic stirrer was added to each flask and the flasks sealed with glass stoppers and PTFE sleeves. The flasks were then placed into a thermostated waterbath set at 25°C overnight with slow stirring.
The stirring was stopped and the test solutions, still containing insoluble test substance, were allowed to settle at 25°C for 30 minutes prior to filtering through Whatman GF/F filter papers under gravity. Clear colourless filtrates were obtained for both tests. The filtered test solutions were analysed without further dilution and quantitatively assessed using standards of the test substance prepared in dichloromethane.

Standard Preparation
Approximately 0.1g of test substance, Dechlorane Plus 35, Intertek Reference 10467869, was accurately weighed, in duplicate, into 100.0mL volumetric flasks and dissolved then made to volume in dichloromethane.
The stock standard solutions were then diluted 2.5mL to 10.0mL in DCM to give standards at 255mg/L and 253mg/L respectively. The 255mg/L solution was used for quantitation and the 253mg/L solution used as check standard.
The prepared test solutions and standards were analysed alongside dichloromethane blanks using the developed and verified GC-ECD method.
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
The data rights for this study have been acquired by Occidental Chemical Belgium BVBA. The registrant has a letter of access for all studies within this dossier that are considered proprietary
Key result
Medium:
n-octanol
Remarks:
EC# 203-917-6
Solubility:
>= 466 - <= 475 mg/L
Temp.:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Average of all results: 470mg/L
Test substance stable:
yes
Conclusions:
Average of all results for octanol solubility to be reported: 470mg/L.
Standard recoveries were acceptable for the levels being observed in this analysis. (108.1% and 108.6% are possible anomalies as duplicate injections of the same solutions were comparable with other recovery results).

Description of key information

Average of all results for octanol solubility: 470mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Solubility in organic solvents at 20°C:
470 mg/L
