miscible with water in any ratio

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A study was conducted (BASF SE, 14L00165 (2014)) to determine the water solubility of the test item. In a preliminary test three different mixtures of the test item with water were prepared to estimate the water solubility. It was not possible to prepare a saturated solution of the test item in water. Thus, the standard method (Shake flask) according to OECD TG 105 for high water solubility substances was not feasible as no saturated solution could be prepared. Thus an internal method was applied to determine the complete miscibility of the substance. Therefore the three mixtures with ratio test item water 1:9, 1:1 and 9:1 were prepared. The mixtures were shaken by hand and after conditioning overnight at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C visually checked. All three mixtures appear as clear, colourless homogenous solutions. Thus, it was concluded that the test item is miscible with water in any ratio.

In addition the GESTIS database and the SRC PhysProp Database report the water solubility to be 213 g/L. The experimental determined value was regarded as most reliable and thus was chosen as key value for chemical safety assessment.
