Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two GLP guideline studies on the ready biodegradability of DL-Alpha-Tocopherol (CAS 10191 -41 -0) are available. In an OECD 301F study, 20% degradation was observed after 28 d which constantly increased during an extended test duration to 70 - 80% after 67 d (Givaudan 2011, report no. 11E006).

In a second study according to OECD 301 F, 0 - 10% biodegradation was observed after 28 d (Roche 1994, report no. B-0164657). The poor biodegradation of the test substance after 28 days can be clearly attributed to the very low water solubility and as a consequence to the low bioavailability of the test substance to the bacteria.

In conclusion, the substance is not readily biodegradable (according to OECD criteria) but inherently biodegradable under extended conditions.
