Description of key information

A toxicity test in microorganism was conducted on acitivated slude of a predominately domestic sewage exposed to dibutyl ether (DnBE) following OECD guideline 209. The 30 min EC50 was > 1000 mg/L, while the reported NOEC was >=1000 mg DnBE/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

Two toxicity test with microorganisms are available for dibutyl ether (DnBE). The keys study was rated a Klimisch score of 1, followed GLP and OECD 209. This study exposed acitivated sludge from a domestic sewage plant to DnBE. The resulting 30 min EC50 value was > 1000 mg/L and the 30 min NOEC was >=1000 mg/L. A supporting study was also available that was rated a Klimisch score of 2. This study followed methodology developed by the authors and exposed Pseudomonas putdia for 16-hr to DnBE. The reported 16-hr NOEC was > 50 mg/L, the highest concentration tested.
