First-aid measures

General advice: Move out of dangerous area. Consult a physician.

If inhaled: Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of dust or fumes from overheating or combustion. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case of skin contact: Take of contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and plenty of water.

In case of eye contact: Flush eyes with water as a precaution. Remove contact lenses. Protect unharmed eye. Keep eye wide open while rinsing.  A physician should be consulted.

If swallowed: Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Obtain medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed: Aspiration may cause pulmonary oedema and pneumonitis.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information service.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Specific hazards during firefighting: Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.

Special protective equipment for firefighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information: Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water seperately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Use personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation.

Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface wter or sanitary sewer system. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. If the prosuct contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Methods for cleaning up: Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling: Keep away from heat, exposure to moisture, Organic matter or contact with alkalis. Reacts vigorously with Water, strong alkalis and other alkaline Chemicals

Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Keep lights flames, and sparks away from tank opening since inflammable hydrogen gas may be formed upon reaction of SDC with steel in pressure of moisture.

Requirements for storage areas and containers: Store in a cool, dry and well ventilated area away from strong alkalis. Moisture from ambient air should not be allowed to enter the SDC storage tank or vessel.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters: Contains no substance with occupational exposure limit values.

Engineering measures: Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or local explosion-proof ventilation to keep airborne levels to acceptable levels.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection: In case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter.

Hand protection: Use Acid and alkali proof rubber hand gloves gloves. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. Before removing gloves clean them with soap and water.

Eye protection: Eye wash bottle with pure water and eyewash facility. Tightly fitting safety goggles.

Skin and body protection: Impervious clothing. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the workplace.

Hygiene measures: Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. When using do not eat or drink. When using do not smoke. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

General advice: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: Stable under recommended storage conditions.  The substance does react violently with water

Chemical stability: No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: The substance does react violently with water

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from heat, exposure to moisture, alkalis & organic matter.

Materials to avoid: Water

Hazardous decomposition products: Sulphur and chlorine oxides.

Disposal considerations

Utilise suitable Waste treatment methods

Product: The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil. Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemical or container. Offer surplus and non-recyclable solutions to a licensed disposal company.

Contamined packaging: Empty remaining contents. Dispose of as unused product. Do not re-use empty containers. To be sure drums are not reused, perforate sides, top and bottom before discarding.
