Description of key information

2-Methylbutanal is not readily biodegradable (54% after 28 d; OECD 301D; LAUS, 2010).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

2 -Methylbutanal was tested for ready biodegradability according to OECD 301D (Closed Bottle Test). Effluent from a biological wastewater treatment plant receiving mostly domestic sewage was used as inoculum. The test concentration of 2-methylbutanal was 5.89 mg/L as ThOD or 2.26 mg/L active ingredient. Degradation reached 45% at the end of the 10-d window, and 54% at test end after 28 d. 2 -Methylbutanal is therfore not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
