Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

5 -Chlorovaleryl chloride is expected to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form 5 -chlorovaleric acid (CAS 1119 -46 -6) and hydrogen chloride (CAS 7647-01-0). Due to this rapid hydrolysis, the assessment of the transport and distribution properties of the parent compound is considered to be of low relevance. For hydrogen chloride no data on adsorption are available. Therefore, the assessment of transport and distribution is based solely on the data available for 5 -chlorovaleric acid.

Adsorption to solid soil phase is not expected. For 5 -chlorovaleric acid log Koc values for the uncharged molecule were calculated to be 1.16 and 0.94 when based on the log Kow method and MCI method respectively. The Koc of the substance may be sensitive to pH.

Henry's law constant

The substance will not evaporate into the atmosphere from the water surface. For 5 -chlorovaleric acid the Henry's law constant was calculated to be 0.0457 Pa·m³/mol based on the Bond Contribution Method.
