Additional information

No data on toxicity of disulfiram (CAS No. 97-77-8) to algae species were available. Therefore, conclusions for this endpoint had to be drawn based on the toxicity data of an analogue substance. Tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No.137-26-8), substance structurally and composition related to tetraethylthiuram disulfide, was tested in one study (Douglas, 1993). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline No. 201: Algae, Growth Inhibition Test (1984), EPA OPP 122-2 Algal Toxicity Tiers I and II (1996) and EU Method C.3, under GLP conditions. Even though this test lasted for 120 hours, endpoint values were calculated at 72 hours too (standard exposure period). The results from this study show that tetramethylthiuram disulfide inhibited algal growth, resulting in a 72h-EC50 of 0.49 mg a.i./L and a NOEC ca. 0.0057 mg a.i./L.
