Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Readacross justification:

The target substance 1,3-Bis(2,6-dimethylphenoxy)propan-2-ol (856976-65-3) is a structural analogue to the source substance Bis-2,4-dimethylphenoxy-propan-1,3-ol-2 (CAS 82448-02-0) differing in the positions of the two methyl groups of the two aromatic rings. Both compounds carry the same functional groups and belong to the same chemical category.

With regard to data gaps the high degree of similarity justifies that it is adequate and scientifically justified to predict environmental fate, ecotoxicological and health hazards arising from exposure to 1,3-Bis(2,6-dimethylphenoxy)propan-2-ol by read across from the surrogate Bis-2,4-dimethylphenoxypropan-1,3-ol-2. Same functional groups show same properties or they follow a trend according to these properties. Therefore it is very unlikely that the source substance behaves different compared to the target substance. The use of read-across and intrapolation is therefore justified to fill in data gaps.

Short-term toxicity to fish

In a 96 hours short term toxicity study to Golden Orfe fishes with the related test substance Bis- 2,4 -dimethylphenoxy-propan-1,3-ol-2 (read-across) the LC50 was determined to be >1000 and < 2150 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

In a short term toxicity test (48 hours) to Daphnia magna the influence of the test item on the swimming ability was determined. The measured EC50 value was 1.42 mg/L with confidence limits (95%) of 1.16 - 1.73 mg/L.

Toxicity to microorganisms

In a read across study with Bis- 2,4-dimethylphenoxy-propan-1,3-ol-2 the oxygen consumption rate was measured. The EC10, EC 50 and EC90 values were determined to be 10000 mg/L.
