Description of key information

An acute dermal irritation study was performed on p-Bromoanisole using New Zinland white rabbits (A single 4 hours semi-occluded application to the intact rabbit skin. Very slight to slight oedema was noted at all treated skin sites. p-Bromoanisole is considered as irritant to rabbit skin.

Additional information

A study was performed to assess the irritancy potential of p-Bromoanisole to the skin of New Zealand white rabbits (1997). Well-defined erythema was noted at all treated skin sites 1 and 24 hours after patch removal with very slight to well-defined erythema at 24 and 72 hour observations. Very slight to slight oedema was noted at all treated skin sites 1 hour after patch removal and at 24 and 48 -hour observations. Very slight oedema was noted at 2 treated skin sites at 72-hour observation.

Crust formation, preventing accurate evaluation of erythema was noted at all treated skin sites at the 7-day observation. Slight desquamation was noted at all treated skin sites at the 14-day observation.

Results from the skin irritation study indicate that p-Bromoanisole produced a primary irritation index of 3.0

Therefore this substance was self classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC as Harmful (Xn), R22: Harmful if swallowed

Irritant (Xi), R 38: Irritating to skin

Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) the substance is self classified as: Skin Irrit. 2, H315 Causes skin irritation , H302 Harmful if swallowed.
