Description of key information
Oxooil LS9 is not acutely harmful to fresh water algae.
ErC50 (72 h, static) 120 mg/l nominal loading rate WAF under the conditions of this test (Desmodesmus subspicatus, OECD 201).
NOEC 20 mg/l nominal loading rate WAF.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for freshwater algae:
- 120 mg/L
- EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
- 20 mg/L
Additional information
Oxooil LS9 was tested in a growth inhibition test with single cell green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus under static conditions according to OECD test guideline 201 (Freshwater Alga and Cyanobacteria, Growth Inhibition Test). Algae (three replicate flasks) were exposed to a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) of the test material, at nominal loading rates of 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 mg/l for 72 hours, under constant illumination and shaking at a temperature of 24 ± 1°C. Since the test substance is volatile, testing was conducted in completely filled, stoppered test vessels in order to minimise possible losses. In terms of growth rate, exposure of Desmodesmus subspicatus to the test material gave an ErC50 (0 - 72 h) value of 120 mg/l nominal loading rate WAF. The Lowest Observed Effect Concentration based on inhibition of growth rate was 40 mg/l nominal loading rate WAF and the No Observed Effect Concentration was 20 mg/l nominal loading rate WAF.
