Description of key information

By analogy with one of its constituent (i.e. cerium dioxide), reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride should not show any adverse effect on soil micro-organisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data is available on the reaction mass. Based on the physico-chemical, environmental and ecotoxicological data available on both the reaction mass and its constituents, the substances show highly similar intrinsic properties. Therefore, a read-across with constituents when data are not available on the reaction mass appears fully relevant.

One experimental study, scored as Klimisch 2 and selected as a key study, is available on cerium dioxide (Muttzall & Hanstveit, 1996). It reveals that cerium dioxide is not harmful to soil micro-organsisms. This result can be used to conclude on the toxicity of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride to soil micro-organisms without launching further tests
