Justification:

Based on the readily biodegradable classification tested according to OECD 301 B test (Desmares- Koopmans, 2009) 1,4 diaminobutane is not (very) persistent , not P and vP.

The octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow = -0,65, Source: Safety Data Sheet WorldWise v.3.02, 1 September 2006) meets the criterion of log Kow < 4,5, from which it can be concluded that 1,4 diaminobutane is not a bioaccumulating substance, not B and vB.

The only available aquatic toxicity data from a study is the 96h-LC50 value in fish of 730 mg/l (Vaessen P, Meijers J, 1984). Although this information is considered reliable with restrictions (reliability 2), this value is used in this toxicity assessment. The toxicity criterion of EC50/LC50 < 0,1 mg/l is not fulfilled (about a factor 7000 higher) therefore the substance 1,4 diaminobutane is considered not to be toxic according to the short-term aquatic toxicity.

The data on persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity do not fulfil the screening criteria of Annex XIII of the REACH regulation (table C.1-1 and C.1-2) and should therefore be considered not to be a PBT or vPvB substance.
